Meet Sarah Lawrence Allen

The Basics

Where are you from?

Memphis, Tennessee

Do you believe a cup is half empty or half full?

Half full: I read that optimists typically run late because they think they can accomplish more in a limited amount of time than they can. I run 5-10 minutes in life!

What is something you are proud about?

I lived outside of the South in Fort Collins, Colorado for two years.

What was your first job?

Camp counselor at Camp Bear Track in Drasco, Arkansas

What makes you laugh?

ESPN bloopers.

Are you a morning person or a night person?

Once I am physically out of the bed, I am a morning person, but 5:00-8:00pm are my best hours! My friends in college laugh about me not being in a lot of our pictures because I was asleep!

What adjective would a close friend use to describe you?

Passionate

Questions about your therapy practice

What do you value about being a therapist?

I value the privilege of being invited into the stories of my clients and the client-therapist relationship being a part of healing.

What's unique or important about your counseling practice?

As a therapist at Lakeside, I created and implemented a mindfulness-based intensive outpatient program for adolescent females with depression, anxiety and relationship issues, using yoga practice and group therapy. I also created and implemented a behavior management program that encourages adolescents to take responsibility in their recovery.

Is there any personal information you'd like clients to know about you?

After being introduced to the Spiritual Root System, it brought new life into my personal life and changed my relationship with myself, others, and God. It also brought new life into my counseling practice and changed how I view the therapeutic process and recovery. Both of which led to my desire to work with clients at Sage Hill Counseling.

Favorites

What is your favorite month of the year and why?

October because of the weather, less humidity, changing colors of the leaves, all food and drink flavored pumpkin, college football, long-sleeve shirts, boots, festivals, and being outdoors.

What is your favorite sporting activity?

To watch: college football. To play: snow skiing.

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy being active, being outdoors as much as possible, and spending time with family and friends.

What is the last book you read?

The Voice of the Heart by Chip Dodd

I think it is the first book I have read from beginning to end since middle school. I want to be a reader because I was told that readers are leaders, but I have a habit of starting books and becoming distracted by the next book that grabs my interest!

If you could...

What super power would you like to have?

To have supernatural cardiovascular strength and to not have sore muscles after I exercise.

If you could travel back through time to spend one day, to when would you travel?

I would travel back to my parents’ wedding day, the day my sister was born, and the day I was born.

Would you like to climb a mountain or trek across a desert?

Climb a mountain!
